3. Sign the affidavit in physical presence of a Justice of the Peace or Notary Public
4. Attach your original Extract Marriage Certificate
5. Post or hand-deliver the entire packet to the Sheriff Court in your district, along with payment

The court then serves your spouse by recorded delivery post — also physical mail.

What "Online Divorce" Companies Actually Do

Services like Quickie Divorce advertise "online divorce in Scotland" from £199. What they actually do is generate your court forms based on an online questionnaire. They produce a PDF that you still need to print, sign, get notarised, and physically submit to the court yourself.

You're paying for form-filling, not for online filing. The physical lodging, swearing, and postal service steps remain the same regardless of whether you bought a form-generation service or downloaded the free forms from SCTS directly.

Will Scotland Get Online Filing?

The Scottish Government has been consulting on family law reform, including potentially extending the Simplified Procedure to cover cases with children under 16. Digital filing modernisation has been discussed, but as of 2026, there's no published timeline for an online DIY divorce portal.
