Legal Aid Queensland (LAQ) provides free or subsidised legal assistance to people who can't afford a private family lawyer. Family Dispute Resolution (FDR): LAQ funds mediation sessions through its own dispute resolution centres. If you qualify, mediation is free. This is often the most accessible LAQ service for property disputes.

Grants of legal aid for representation: The hardest to obtain for property matters. LAQ prioritises cases involving family violence, significant power imbalance, or complex legal issues. A straightforward property division where both parties are capable of self-representing is unlikely to receive a full grant.

What LAQ Doesn't Cover

LAQ doesn't typically fund:
